Actual Thoughts and Symptoms from an Eating Disorder Surviver (Anorexia/Bulimia)

Most websites are full of scientific, medical information about eating disorders. However, the information comes from doctors and specializing therapists who have only worked with eating disorders. This website is different because it is designed by someone who lives with an eating disorder, anorexia/bulimia. The purpose of this page is to read the thoughts and symptoms from this perspective. Symptoms
*Weakness and shaking
*Dizziness
*Extreme hunger that eventually fades as the hunger is ignored
*Difficulty concentrating and short term memory loss
*Irregular heartbeat
*Insomnia
*Fatigue
*Always feeling cold due to the body's inability to keep warm
*Dry skin

Thoughts
“I'm not hungry.”
“Eat a couple of bites and stop.”
“I'm living just fine without much nutrition.”
“I'll feel better when I get past the point of being hungry.”
“I shouldn't have eaten. Now I feel fat, too full.”
“Nothing tastes good anymore.”
“Is everyone watching how much I eat?”
“Good, my weight is still going down.”
“I can't enjoy any activity that involves food.”
“I like the compliments I receive about being thin.”
“I don't want it and I don't need it.”
“Purging is such a relief.”
“Don't eat now just in case I might be forced to eat something later.”
“I don't look that thin.”
“I feel so guilty and disappointed in myself if I eat.”
“If I eat or don't purge, then I'm giving up the control I have.”
