Anorexia
  Behavioral Symptoms
    *Dramatic weight loss in a short period of time
    *Intense fears of becoming overweight
    *Restricting foods for long periods
    *Extreme dieting and exercising even though weight is average or below
    *Isolation from family, friends, and events concerning food
    *Hair loss on head, but increase of body hair to keep warm
    *Obsessive rituals around food such as weighing, cutting up into small pieces, counting calories
    *Strong desire to be in control of eating, weight, and of oneself
    *Mood swings, depression, low self-esteem
    *Weighing frequently on a scale
    *Other self-injury behaviors such as cutting, hitting, or burning (See Self-Injury)
  Physical Symptoms
    *Chronically cold
    *Dizziness and weakness from malnutrition and/or dehydration
    *Decreased blood pressure
    *Heartbeat irregularities
    *Loss of menses
    *Electrolyte imbalances
    *Below normal weight range
 
Bulimia
  Behavioral Symptoms
    *Eating a large amount of food followed by purging
    *Purging may be in the form of vomiting, laxatives, diuretics or excessive exercise
    *Distorted body image
    *Isolation or secretive behaviors in order to binge and purge
    *Restricting foods
    *Mood swings, depression, low self esteem, loneliness, hopelessness
    *Fears of becoming fat or feeling unnecessarily full or bloated
    *Other self-injury behaviors such as cutting, hitting, or burning (See Self-Injury)
  Physical Symptoms
    *Irregular heartbeat
    *Loss of menses
    *Digestive problems
    *Electrolyte imbalances and low potassium levels
    *Dental problems
    *Thinning hair
    *Dehydration
    *Internal bleeding from purging
    *At or slightly below normal weight range
 
Compulsive Over-Eating
  Behavioral Symptoms
    *Binging on abnormal amounts of food
    *Eating secretly and/or grazing throughout the day
    *Weight gain but obsessed with weight loss
    *Mood swings, depression, low self-esteem, hopelessness
    *Failed dieting attempts
    *Feeling unable to control eating compulsions
